In 1956, Walter Höfner had an idea for a violin shaped semi-acoustic bass. Launched at that years Frankfurt Music Show, his idea revolutionized popular music & with continuous production from 1956 this bass is one of the few guitars available today that can trace it's origins back to the very beginning of Rock 'n' Roll.

Many players revere Höfner’s Violin Bass as a legend because of its historical significance and its warm, woody, double-bass-like amplified tone. The Höfner Violin Bass is a unique instrument with a smooth, sweet sound and a playing ease that simply eludes most ordinary basses.

Hofners most seen and famous instrument must be the Violin bass as used by Paul Mc Cartney from the Beatles. Hofner guitars have a colouful history, The company began in Schönbach, Germany in 1887. Hofner Became one of the Largest manufactures of violins in Germany.  When his two sons, Josef and Walter, joined their father's company in 1919 and 1921 respectively,they began to produce Acoustic guitars for the masses.

 In 1997 when the company moved to a new production facility near the village of Hagenau. Millions of Euros have since been invested in state-of-the-art, environmentally-friendly production technologies. Today, Höfner continues to build fine quality, hand-crafted hollow-body and bass guitars for new generations of players and collectors.
